India’s cricket team lost the 2023 ODI World Cup final to Australia by 6 wickets on Sunday, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi helped boost the team’s spirits after the match.
After walking into the Indian dressing room, the Prime Minister consoled the Men in Blue, who despite putting in their best effort on the pitch, were unable to win the coveted trophy. As he spoke to Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma, PM Modi advised them not to be downhearted about the result.
A couple of minutes ago, PM had spoken with Rohit and Virat and said, “Aap logpura 10-10 game jeet ke aaye ho, ye to hota rehta. (You have won 10 out of 10 games)”
As a result, PM Modi applauded the Indian team for their hard work and advised the Indian captain to smile a little. He also called out Indian coach Rahul Dravid for his work.
PM Modi hugs Mohammed Shami
One of the highlights of the clip was when the Prime Minister called out Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s name, telling him he had done well in the tournament, then hugged the bowler warmly. Also shaking hands with the Prime Minister were KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah, who are all-rounders.
As the top wicket-taker in this edition of the World Cup, Shami took 24 wickets in only seven matches, with a strike rate of 12.20 and an average of 10.70. In addition, Virat Kohli scored 765 runs in the tournament, missing out on half-centres just twice in 11 matches.
