by | Feb 20, 2024 | Camera & Lenses | 0 comments

In this article, I will explain the current Sony Mirrorless Camera lineup, including all the Full Frame and APS-C bodies. I will also mention the best cameras in each category.

Full Frame: A1, A7, A7II, A7III, A7IV, A7C, A7CII, A7CR, ZV-E1, A7R, A7RII, A7RIII, A7RIV, A7RV, A7S, A7SII, A7SIII, A9, A9II, A9III, FX3

Entry level Hybrid Cameras (Full Frame)

A7, A7II, A7III, A7IV, A7C, A7CII

This series has well-built Hybrid cameras which is good for photography as well as videography. In this series of camera, A7III is the most popular one at its time. A7III is a 6 years old camera body. Sony A7IV is the improved version of a7iii. A7IV is a feature packed work horse. Though A7CII is the newer one in this series but A7IV is more value for money. It’s more than enough for anyone whether its photography or videography and it’s my top pick in this category.

SONY A7IV

  • Launched globally in October 2021
  • 33MP – Full frame BSI-CMOS sensor
  • ISO 100 – 51200 (expands to 50 – 204800)

Photo based camera (Full Frame)

A7R, A7RII, A7RIII, A7RIV, A7RV

This series is based on high resolution photography cameras. The “R” stands for resolution here. It’s not that you can’t do videography with it, you can make impressive videos with the last two cameras of this series. But this series is more towards photography. In the latest A7RV you get a 61 MP full frame sensor. Frankly speaking, you can make a poster out of it. But we can’t forget the A7IV which is not that old and it still has all the necessary features in it. So, in this series, my pick is Sony A7RIV which is more value for money.

 camera (Full FramVideo basede)

This series is based on high sensitivity videography cameras. The “S” stands for sensitivity here. It’s not that you can’t do photography with it, you can take decent photo with it. But this series is more towards videography and with no doubt the A7SIII is my one and only pick for this category.

Sony A7SIII

High speed photography camera (Full Frame)

A9, A9II, A9III

This series is based on high speed photography cameras. It’s not that you can’t do videography with it, you can make impressive videos with the latest camera of this series. But this series is more towards high speed photography. In the latest A9III Sony introduced a new Global Shutter Sensor which is the first full frame mirrorless camera to offer this advanced feature. A global shutter system exposes and reads all pixels at once, eliminating exposure differences. This eliminates flash banding. This is the best choice for sports and bird photography.

A9ISony II

This camera is not a part of any series. The Sony A1 has the whole series in it. It is the one camera designed to do it all. It built with no compromises. A true flagship in the truest sense. It is as capable for videography as it is for photography.

Sony’s APS-C Camera

A6000, A6100, A6300, A6400, A6500, A6600, A6700

Sony is known for pushing the boundaries of camera technology, and its APS-C lineup is no exception. These compact yet feature-rich cameras offer a perfect balance of performance and affordability. The A6400 was the most popular and value for money camera in this segment but with the latest A6700, the APS-C lineup is in different level. Now its head to head with the full frame body.

Sony A6700

  • Replaced by Sony A6600

  • Sony’s entry level cinema cameras – Sony’s entry level cinema camera consists FX30 (aps-c) and FX3 (full frame). Both are amazing feature packed video cameras with a built-in fan in it. You can’t go wrong with any of these body, if you are a beginner and has a low budget range you can go with FX30. If you want to invest for long term and you have the budget, the FX3 is waiting for you.

  • Sony’s vlogging cameras – Sony’s vlogging camera consists ZV-E10 (aps-c) and ZV-E1 (full frame). Both cameras are designed for vloggers and content creators. With some additional video feature, both lacks the viewfinder, here you can understand these are not photography cameras.

  • Sony’s compact full frame cameras – Sony created this series for Travel Photographers and Content Creators who wants a lite setup for run & gun shooting. As we all know that full frame bodies are bulkier and heavier than aps-c, and the aps-c clearly doesn’t have that full frame sensor advantage. Sony got a solution here and comes with some “C” series cameras like A7C, A7CII. These are compact full frame cameras, the “C” stands for compact over here. Recently Sony released the 3rd camera of this series A7CR. This is a compact photo-based camera while the A7C and A7CII are the compact hybrids.
