by | Aug 5, 2023 | Entertainment | 0 comments

The world of glitziness and glamour of the Hindi movie industry is a very uncertain world, where success, glory and glamour are associated with immense risks. Time and again we have seen several actors, who have been successful at some point in their career, opening up about how they would be feeling depressed as they would be sitting without any work, in the literal sense of the term, despite their praising performances in their career. This is a problem that is not a recent one but even legendary actors such as Amitabh Bachchan had also been a victim of this situation. Recently, actor Ronit Roy opened up about not being given work despite the praising performance and success of some of his movies. He revealed how the controversial director of the Hindi movie industry, Karan Johar (KJo), would deny him work despite Ronit Roy requesting him several times for some opportunity to be a part of his movies.

This time, Sharib Hashmi, another popular Hindi actor, who has gained immense appreciation for his memorable performance in certain web series and movies, opens up about how he would remain depressed during the no-work phase in his life after the massive success of his first movie, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, that too with Shah Rukh Khan. He also shared that he would remain depressed due to being out of work for a considerable period since his breakthrough film with one of the biggest actors in the Hindi movie industry.

The Depressing Moment in Sharib Hashmi’s Life

It is no wonder that if you know that you are good at something yet you do not get any opportunity to display your talent, you are bound to feel depressed. This is exactly the thing that Sharib Hashmi faced in his work front after his brief stopover in the world of glitziness, glamour and glory with ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’. He revealed that he had the misconception that probably his sharing the space on the screen with one of the biggest names in the Hindi movie industry, Shah Rukh Khan, would garner him much success, fame and further opportunities to display his acting talent. Unfortunately, he did not get any call from any director post the release of the movie.

To rub salt in the wound, several of the films that he signed also were cancelled due to some unknown reasons or did not get completed or had never seen the light of day despite the shooting getting over and complete. He would have to hanker for some roles with the directors but all without much success. Such was his situation at that time that even his brother-in-law suggested he think over his decision to pursue acting in movies as his career and advised him to choose another more secure profession. This led him into severe depression and he would remain sad and dejected for most of his life then. The situation in his professional life severely affected his personal life too as his wife had to sell away her jewellery to save the family from running out of funds that were needed for them to help them sustain themselves. Finally,, his prayers were heard as it was with a somewhat successful movie called ‘Filmistaan’ that he once again had the taste of fame and wealth. In a recent interview, the ‘Family Man’ actor says, “I thought I’d made it, but for one reason or another, nothing was working out. Films I had signed for were cancelled, some were left incomplete, and others weren’t released. One year turned into two, two to three. This period was more difficult because, before Filmistaan, I’d never seen any success. So, when people started turning their backs after that, it was a difficult pill to swallow.” He further added, “You’ve worked with Shah Rukh Khan and still nothing has changed. That’s what regular people believe, don’t they? Once you’ve worked with a huge star, you’re sorted. But everyone has their journey. I was determined; I didn’t want to do anything else.”

The Gloom Hidden in the Glamour

The revelation by Sharib Hashmi has once again highlighted the gloomy side of the world of glamour. Uncertainties and unexpected setbacks are inseparable aspects of the movie industry, whether it is the Hindi movie industry or any regional movie industry. While it may sound disheartening to a rising talent such as Sharib Hashmi, this is something that anyone in this profession has to cope with; no matter how much talented and skilled they are in their craft. This revelation also shows that even talented and skilled people such as himself can sometimes fail to take the toll of rejection on themselves. Rejections and non-availability of work can fuel pangs of depression in a person that can affect him and his life seriously. The person can be left depressed and dejected like that of Sharib Hashmi. It is his positive mentality, resilience and constant hard work that finally dragged him out of the gloom into the glamour once more with a successful movie. Every setback is, thus, a stepping stone to make a great leap forward towards success.

The road to success in the movie industry, especially in the Hindi movie industry which enjoys a huge viewer base throughout the country, is very difficult to walk on. It is often filled with thorns and even established actors face their times of draught. In the case of Sharib Hashmi, his honesty and dedication towards his craft, his positive mindset and his resilience have made him drink from the cup of success once more. It shows how he knows to remain calm in the face of challenges and encounter them bravely to overcome them in the end. As the Hindi movie industry continues to flourish, it is crucial for everyone, especially the directors, to recognize and uplift artists like Sharib Hashmi, who continues to push their limitations and inspire others with their perfection, honesty and dedication.

Meanwhile, on the work front, he has been a part of quite several hits such as ‘Family Man’ web series with actor Manoj Bajpayee, ‘Dhaakad’ with actress Sonakshi Sinha and movies such as ‘Tarla’ with actress Huma Qureshi, ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’, ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ and a lot more.
