Nalanda University Reopens in 2024 with Renewed Optimism

Nalanda University opens again after 800 years. One of India’s most famous universities is Nalada UNIVERSITY. Nalanda University is located near Rajgir in India’s Bihar state. This was destroyed, and the valuable Nalanda library was destroyed by the invader, Bakhtiyar Khilji. Bakhtiyar Khilji’s search for the Quran in the Nalanda University library, which he apparently was unable to find, was one of the driving forces behind his acts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University in Bihar which is located close to the ruins of the ancient university in Rajgir.

Nalanda university Located 12 km from the ruins of Bihar,. The new campus of the University has been taking shape over the last four years in Rajgir, a town that is over 150 km from Patna.

The campus is spread over 455 acres and is complete with academic and administrative blocks, teachers and students’ living rooms, laboratories and libraries.

The University can accommodate around 8000 teachers and students, enrolled in six schools such subjects as Historical Studies, Ecology and Environmental Studies, Buddhist Studies, Philosophy and Comparative Religion, Languages and literature/humanities, Management Studies and International Relations.

This university designed by Vaastu Shilpa. This university’s entire cost, as India has contributed Rs 680.75 crore,. The academy, which will house of all schools and centers of study, will have open rooms similar the cells of students at Nalanda Mahavidyalaya. These rooms may be used as study spaces for students.

Narendra Modi officially opened the Nalanda University campus in Rajgir, Bihar. The university is envisioned as a partnership between India and the East Asia Summit countries.

Several eminent people, including the heads of missions from 17 countries, attended the inauguration ceremony. This is obvious from the largest number of countries represented at today’s inauguration, he continued, while thanking the friendly nations’ contributions to the Nalanda initiative.

He also lauded the people of Bihar for their determination to restore the splendor that is reflected in Nalanda. Nalanda was once the living center of India’s culture and traditions. The Prime Minister said that the meaning of Nalanda is the continuous flow of understanding and education, and this has been India’s philosophy toward education. It introduces values and thoughts while giving them shape.

The Prime Minister said, highlighting that students were admitted to the ancient Nalanda University regardless of their identities and nationalities. He also stresses the need to strengthen the same ancient traditions on the newly inaugurated Nalanda University Campus in modern form. The Prime Minister expressed that students from more than 20 countries are already studying at Nalanda University and said that it is the perfect example of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’.

BACKGROUND

The Nalanda University Campus has two academic blocks with 40 classrooms, with a total seating capacity of around 1950. It has two auditoriums with a capacity of 300 seats each, a student hostel with a capacity of around 500 students, and various other facilities, including an international center, an amphitheater that can accommodate up to 2000 individuals, a faculty club, and a sports complex, among others.

The campus is a ‘Net Zero’ green campus. It is independent of solar plants, domestic and drinking water treatment plants, water recycling plants for reusing wastewater, 100 acres of water bodies, and many other environmental facilities. The university has a strong relationship with history. The original Nalanda University, founded about 1600 years ago, is regarded as one of the world’s first residential universities. The ruins of Nalanda were awarded a UN Heritage Site in 2016.
