Sukanta Majumdar, state president of the BJP, said lakhs of people will gather at the Brigade Parade Ground on December 24 to honor Sanatana Dharma’s virtues. As part of a mass chanting of the Bhagavat Gita on December 24, three Hindu organizations have invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Kolkata’s Brigade Parade Grounds.

According to rumors, the BJP plans to use the event to reach out to Bengal’s Hindu voters ahead of the 2024 elections, so Sukanta Majumdar, the party’s state president, accompanied them to Delhi.

Majumdar announced on his social media page that they met our Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, and that he accepted our invitation to attend our event on 24th December at the Brigade Parade Ground, Kolkata, where lakhs will gather to reflect on Sanatana Dharma.

However, Majumdar claimed the BJP had no connection to the event. “Lawmakers from all parties, including Mamata Banerjee, will be invited,” he stated. In order to help the organisers, I accompanied them. As they don’t know anyone out there, they said they needed someone to contact the Prime Minister’s Office on their behalf.” Majumdar told the media after returning to Kolkata on Saturday.

A TMC state general secretary, Kunal Ghosh, said, “Chanting verses from the Gita is always good for people, but for the BJP, this won’t help in the election.” Akhil Bharatiya Sanskrit Parishad, Sanatan Sanskriti Sanshad and Motilal Bharat Tirth Seva Mission Ashram are organizing the first mass chanting of its kind in Bengal.

During February this year, the first two organizations held a fair similar to the Kumbh Mela in Bengal’s Nadia district. Pradiptanand, president of the Sanatan Sanskriti Sanshad, said at a press conference on Saturday that the December event is free for all Indians. This is not a political or Hindutva event.
