‘Oh My God Part 2’ Left Far Behind in the Game by ‘Gadar Part 2’ in the First Day Collections at the Box Office: ‘Tara Singh’ Headed for a Blockbuster Beginning Leaving ‘Khiladi’ Kumar Expecting for Some Momentum in His Movie Later

In the world of the Hindi movie industry, the success and collection of money at the box office sets the parameter of success for any movie. The acceptance of a movie by the public and its craze among them is a determiner of how successful a movie would be at the box office. The success of a movie at the box office is not just a reflection of how much response a movie has received from the audience but also marks the establishment of the commercial ability of a movie. This time the fight is between the newly released movies, ‘Oh My God Part 2’ starring Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi and ‘Gadar Part 2’ starring Sunny Deol And Amisha Patel. It has been reported that the first-day collection of ‘Gadar Part 2’ at the box office has topped the charts and has grossed over a collection of somewhere around 18.50 crore of rupees, reaching the same as that of Rajinikanth’s Tamil film ‘Jailer’. Unfortunately, Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s new film ‘Oh My God Part 2’ has been lagging quite far behind as of now as compared to ‘Gadar Part 2’. However, the movie is expected to see some light today as it has witnessed some betterment on its part in terms of its first-day booking.

The Too Much Clash of the Second Parts

It is quite a coincidence to see that for the first time in the Hindi movie industry, there has been a clash between the second part of two movies that have different lines of story and content.  The Anil Sharma directorial film has seen massive sales of tickets numbering up to 45,000 for the first-day booking of the show and if the same craze is maintained among the movie goers then it is expected that the number of tickets sold could climb up to 2,00,000 tickets by Thursday night.

The film has quite expectedly fanned the patriotic sentiments of several Indians as it would show Sunny Deol playing the role of the rough and tough and rugged ‘Tara Singh’, who would fearlessly travel to Pakistan to take them down single-handedly and release his son ‘Charan Jeet Singh’ from the Pakistani army. Having been accurately released before the Indian independence day and the national elections that are supposed to be held in the next year, the film, no wonder, has attracted several people to watch how the Pakistani army would be thrashed by the ‘iron man’ of India.

In the case of ‘Oh My God Part 2’, Akshay Kumar will be seen in the role of a messenger from the abode of Lord Shiva, who comes to the rescue of the character of Pankaj Tripathi. However, this film featured several controversial scenes and dialogues, some of which were even adult. As a result, the film had to suffer several cuts and censorship before its release. These revamps have badly affected the progress of the movie. However, it is believed that the situation could improve for ‘Khiladi’ Kumar as the film has somehow managed to collect a gross total of 3.50 crore of rupees through the grace of advanced bookings.

‘Gadar’ Macahaya Shor

It is no wonder that ‘Gadar Part 2’ would lead to a lot of noise as the first part ‘Gadar’ was a super hit. On top of that, the fanning of the national sentiments has been aptly done by the director Anil Sharma as the film was very craftily removed before the Indian independence day and kept the national elections in mind in the next year. This thing alongside the ‘macho man’ look of Sunny Deol has contributed to the much hype and craze about the film. Thus, it has struck a chord with the audience and made it one of the highest-grossing films in the Hindi movie industry and the sequel was naturally expected to carry the legacy of the franchise forward.

‘Ungodly’ Scenes Crashed ‘Oh My God 2’

It has been alleged by the censor board that the film had to go pass through the scissors of censorship due to the presence of certain ungodly scenes and dialogues in the movie. Even the portrayal of Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva did not go down well with many people. Actor Pankaj Tripathi has lamented the censor scissors for the apparent downfall of the film. He spoke out his heart in an interview against the censor board people not understanding the crux of the storyline of the film. He said that the movie was based more on guiding the young generation in the field of sex education which is becoming more and more crucial nowadays. As the film has been completely revamped to the extent that certain scenes had to be shot newly, Pankaj Tripathi complained that the entire purpose of the movie has been defeated. On top of that, the movie getting an ‘A’ (Adult) certificate instead of the ‘U/A’ (Universal Adult) certificate has left him feeling dejected. This would mean that the film would not be seen by people in the age group of 12 to 18. This has severely punctured their intention of making them aware of the need for sex education. Thus, the prevalence of some ‘ungodly’ scenes led to the crashing of the movie at the box office.

Still, there is some expected relief for Akshay Kumar and his entire team as the movie is expected could be saved from an imminent disaster if spot bookings take place.

Though the fight at the box office may decide the apparent acceptance of a film by the public, it is to be remembered that it cannot determine the true worth of a film. While ‘Gadar 2’ might have been able to take on the lead initially through its larger-than-life action sequences and portraying the hero as the saviour of India and its pride, one must not forget that the purpose behind ‘OMG 2’ was to make the society aware of a significant social issue. For a true critic of a film, it is the content that holds significance. As viewers, we must appreciate diversity and give place to every film.
