‘Sunny Deol Nikla Ek Film Leke/ ‘Gadar Part 2’ Aaya/ Maza Nahi Aaya’ was the first comment by some netizens on the social media account Twitter, when the ‘Gadar Part 2’ unit decided to release its first launch of the trailer for the viewers and the Sunny Deol fans to have a glimpse of one of the most anticipated movies of this year. The long-awaited sequel to the cross-border romance that was directed by the famous director Anil Sharma would see Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel reprising their roles as ‘Tara Singh’ and ‘Sakina’ with the character of ‘Tara Singh’ again travelling to Lahore to teach the attacking Pakistani soldiers a lesson single-handedly. There was much anticipation about how Sunny Deol would make his comeback with the film after the massive hit of its prequel that was released 22 years ago in the year 2001. However, it seems that this time the unit has not been able to live up to the expectations of the viewers as they did not find the trailer to be quite an impressive one. The release of the trailer brought in mixed reviews from the users of Twitter with some of them even calling it absurd and equivalent to that of a B-grade movie from the Bhojpuri film industry.
‘Main Nikla Film Leke’ but Had a Breakdown
It would not be wrong to change some words and lines from the famous song ‘Main Nikla Gaddi Leke’ to describe the disastrous situation that this film would be currently in after its release, given that the trailer has garnered so many negative views. The second part of the film is about ‘Tara Singh’ and ‘Sakina’s’ only son ‘Jeete’ joining the army to fight for the peace of his country as the enemies from Pakistan try to breach the security. In an attempt to fight with the Pakistani soldiers, the character of ‘Jeete’ gets caught by the Pakistani soldiers, who bring him to Pakistan and he was meted out with serious torture there in the hands of the tyrant General of the Pakistani army. On being informed of his son’s kidnapping and being pleased by his wife, ‘Tara Singh’ decided to travel to Lahore and fight with the soldiers single-handedly to rescue his son. The execution of the plot did not go down well with many netizens, who instantly reacted with sarcastic criticisms as soon as the trailer was released on the social media account. The absurd and top-of-the-world action scenes made the movie look cringe-worthy and even funny memes have been instantly made on various scenes from the movie.
The original movie that is called ‘Gadar-Ek Prem Katha’ was released in 2001 and was directed by the famous director Anil Sharma. It became a massive hit and achieved similar to that cult status among the several fans of Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel. It became one of the most massive hits in the history of the Hindi film industry. Sunny Deol’s portrayal of ‘Tara Singh’, a Sikh man being ousted from his native land of Pakistan during the Partition and caught in a cross-border romance with a Pakistani girl by the name of ‘Sakina’, garnered massive applauds from viewers all over the country. The tear-inducing romance and the patriotic theme of the movie showered in praises for the cast and the makers of the film, ensuring a memorable movie that remains ever etched in the minds of movie buffs. This led to the creation of high expectations in the minds of the viewers, sadly, who have been disappointed this time with the second part.
The backlash that was faced by the ‘Gadar Part 2’ unit shows that this is an era when it is not easy for filmmakers to easily fool the audience with some high-octane action movies starring a sterling cast. The backlash also shows the power of social media accounts in shaping the opinion of the public. However, while negative reviews can affect the reception of a film, it must not be forgotten that a trailer can just provide a glimpse or summary of, what the film is going to be all about. Sometimes it will be wrong to judge a film by its trailer, however, in the reviews in case of this Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel movie, it seems that the netizens are not very wrong, especially, due to the repetition of the same scene of the character of Sunny Deol uprooting a hand pump from the first part. At the same time, the movie makers must not forget that the success of the film depends on the audience and they should be making something acceptable to the people and not just feed them anything.
The most awaited movie will see Sunny Deol and Amisha Patel reprising their roles as ‘Tara Singh’ and ‘Sakina’ while the director Anil Sharma’s son, who debuted as a child actor in the first part of the movie, ‘Gadar-Ek Prem Katha’ was seen playing his adult version in the second part too. He will be playing the role of the son of the ‘Gadar’ couple. Other actors such as Simrat Kaur and Gaurav Chopra will be seen in various roles. The trailer for the second version of the movie was released on ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ on the 26th of July this year. it was shared by Sunny Deol on his social media handles with the caption “Apne parivaar aur desh ke liye, ek baar phir se Gadar machayega Tara Singh! (For the sake of his family and his nation, Tara Singh will fight back).” The trailer ends with Sunny ‘paaji’ staring angrily at the hand pump reminding the viewers of the iconic hand pump uprooting scene from the first instalment. The film is about to be released on the 11th of August this year and this is set against the backdrop of the ‘Crush India Movement’ that was launched by Pakistan in the year 1971.
