‘Navratri’, one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated Hindu festivals, holds a special place in the hearts of millions across India. It is a festival that unites people in a joyous celebration of culture, music, and dance. The word ‘Navratri’ finds its roots in two Sanskrit words, ‘Nava’ meaning nine and ‘Ratri’ meaning nights, and indeed, it spans nine nights of revelry and devotion. For nine consecutive nights, people across villages and cities in the state gather in open spaces to celebrate.

Gujarat, among all, stands out as the epicentre of ‘Navratri’ celebrations, hosting one of the longest dance festivals in the world. As the sun sets on the western horizon, the people of Gujarat gather in open spaces, adorned in colourful traditional attire, to participate in the ‘Ras Garba’ and ‘Dandiya Raas’ dances.

During ‘Navratri’, the air is filled with music, and stories of Lord Krishna and the Gopis, symbolizing love and devotion, are often depicted through ‘Ras Garba’ music.
