Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom Trailer Review

by | Sep 16, 2023 | Entertainment | 0 comments

When it comes to any series on the popular over-the-top platform (OTT) of Netflix, it has never failed to surprise us with its variety of content. This time DC Comics have decided not to begin with another chapter unless they successfully wrap themselves up with their latest release on Netflix, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’.  The film is being released as a sequel to the blockbuster that was released in the year 2018. A James Wan directorial, it is going to mark itself as the latest film in the original DC Extended Universe. This is going to be the last film in the genre of DC superhero prior to the rebooting of the continuity of ‘Superman: Legacy’ by James Gunn and Peter Safran. Facing off against Black Manta, played by Yahya Abdul Mateen 2, Aquaman has to survive the attacks on his kingdom and himself before he can join the transition from the old to the new DC Universe. Packed with high-octane action, this film is a sure delectable assortment of adrenaline-inducing underwater battles and an intriguing storyline. The stage is being set for an underwater epic adventure that is sure to keep the audiences glued to their couch and munch on snacks.

Arthur Curry Back with a Bang

The movie is going to witness Jason Momoa or the Aquaman in a completely different avatar now. He is a full-fledged family man with a baby boy to protect him from his enemies.  The trailer that was released on Thursday, the 14th of September, takes us through the mystical underwater kingdom of ‘Atlantis’. The film would see the two, Arthur Curry or the Aquaman and his step-brother Orm, which is played by Patrick Wilson, setting up strategies in order to protect their family, throne and kingdom from the attacks of the Black Manta, which is played by Yahya Abdul Mateen 2. A recent post on the social media account of ‘X’ (formerly known as ‘Twitter’) by the makers of the movie gives out the logline to the film, “Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.”

Jason Momoa Gains It Once Again

From, what the trailer has released so far about his role as the Aquaman, it does not need us to say that Jason Momoa has made it once again through the reprisal of the character of Arthur Curry. With his characteristic magnetism, manifestation and wit, he played out the role of the king of the fictional underwater town of Atlantis effortlessly enough as he had been doing earlier. The trailer has hinted at the adventure that Arthur would have to come across both as a father as well as the guardian of the kingdom of Atlantis. The trailer shows him as a protective father, ensuring the security of his newborn son in the wake of the life-threatening acts that are being directed against him from the side of the villain by the name of Black Manta. However, there is a small diversion in the film from the main story as in the original story the baby of Aquaman would be murdered by the villain, whereas as per the plotline, the baby would not have to experience such a fateful moment.

All Ears to Hear Amber Heard

If you think that the way the story has been turned out in the film is the only interesting aspect of the film then let us remind you that the most interesting aspect about this film is the comeback that has been made by Amber Heard in the character of Mera. After her massive divorce fight with her former husband and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean ‘actor Johnny Depp, it is a sort of experiment by the makers of the movie to see how their projection of Amber Heard would be received by the public. With such a thing in the background, the actress even has made a claim that has sparked off a great controversy from her side. Speaking before the media, she revealed how the studio decided to shorten her presence on the screen owing to the immense public shaming that she has been facing online since her loss in the ugly fight for divorce against her former husband and actor, Johny Depp. She revealed how he would just get a sum of $1 million in the first part of the series of ‘Aquaman’ and just $2 million for the sequel. She even complained of the fact that her role in the film has been diminished to “a very pared-down version.”

Refuting the claims of getting her role diminished by the studio, the director of the film Wan told an online version of the magazine, the ’Entertainment Weekly’ that the film was always focused on exploring the relationship of Aquaman with his step-brother Orm. “I always pitched this to everyone from the get-go. The first ‘Aquaman’ was Arthur and Mera’s journey. The second movie was always going to be Arthur and Orm. So, the first was a romance action-adventure movie, the second one is a bromance action-adventure movie.”

The Stars Shine in the Sequel

The sequel can easily boast of a sterling cast with some of the famous names coming together to play their parts in the movie. Apart from the charming presence of Jason Momoa, Abdul Mateen Yahya, Wilson and Amber Heard, the other cast in the film include that of Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren and Willem Dafoe. Every one of them is going to be back in their original skins in the movie. From his cameo in the first movie to now playing the part of a character by the name of ‘Dr. Stephen Shin’ in the sequel, the connection of Randall Park with the movie has been great. Other names include Vincent Regan, Pilou Asbaek and Indya Moore. The spicy dialogues are a brainchild of David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

As I, a fan of the ‘Aquaman’ series, eagerly wait for the movie to hit the theatres to take us on an underwater journey, where our valiant hero, the ‘Aquaman’ would even be spotted fighting off large underwater mechanical serpents, I fasten my seatbelts with popcorns in hand to take an underwater ride into the thrilling and exciting world of Atlantis and much more.
