Bhagalpur is famous for its production of silk and is well known as the “silk capital of India.” In the local language, the people of Bihar are known as “Bhagalpuri silk.”  Bhagalpuri silk is also known as “Tussar silk.” Bhaglpuri silk is famous all over the country because of its exceptional quality and its extremely unique and distinctive adaptability and flexibility. Bhagalpuri silk, also known for its exquisite texture, durability, and intricate designs, continues to be in high demand both domestically and internationally, earning international acclaim and making it a conveted commodity in the global fashion markets. The Bhagalpur silk industry remains Bhagalpur’s economic lifeline, with lots of numerous silk weaving clusters dotting the city and its outskirts.

Bhagalpur city celebrates various religious and cultural festivals throughout the year, each offering a glimpse into its rich heritage and community spirit.

  • One of the biggest festival of Bhagalpur, Bihar, is Chhath Pooja. Chhath Pooja is an emotion of every person of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Chhath Pooja is only festival which is dedicated to the worship of the “Sun God”. During Chhath Pooja, devotees gather along on the banks of the Ganges and offer prayers and rituals, accompanied by traditional songs and dances and celebrate this festival with lots of love and happiness.  The festival shows Bhagalpur’s devotion to its spiritual roots and among its residents.
  • Another significant festival which is celebrated in the Bhagalpur city of Bihar is the “Bihula-Bishari Pooja.” This festival celebrated with great fervour in the rural areas surrounding the city. This is a folk festival that revolves around the mythical tale of Bihula, a local deity, and is marked by its colourful processions, folk music, and theatrical performances.

HISTORY OF BHAGALPUR CITY

FlAVORS OF BHAGALPUR CITY

Here is the most famous food of Bhagalpur, Bihar:

“Litti chokha” is one of most famous foods all over Bihar. Litti chokha is a traditional food in Bihar which is made up of wheat flour balls stuffed with roasted gram flour (sattu), and it is served with brinjal (eggplant) or potato mixed with spices.

“Thekua” is also one of most famous food in Bihar. Thekua is an emotion shared by all the people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. Thekua is a traditional food in Bihar.  Thekua is a popular sweet snack made especially during the Chhath Pooja festival, Thekua is a crunchy, deep-fried sweet snack made from wheat flour, jaggery, and ghee.

“Dal pitha” is a type of dumpling which is made from rice flour and stuffed with spiced lentils. It can be steamed or fried and is often served with chutney.
