Kuwait Fire Tragedy: 49 is the total number of people killed in the Al-Mangaf building, where 42 learned to be Indians
Among 42 Indians, at least five from Kerala were killed and almost 50 were injured in this devastating fire. Its broke out in a building which houses around 195 settled workers in Southern Kuwait’s Mangaf area The reports are claimed on June 12th, Wednesday.
Among 49 people, and except 42 Indians, other people are most probably from Pakistani, Filipino, Egyptian, and Nepali nationals, media reports said.
“In an unfortunate and tragic fire incident earlier today in a labour housing facility in the Mangaf area of Kuwait, around 40 Indians are understood to have died and over 50 injured,” the statement was made by the external ministry of affairs on Wednesday late at night.
The incident was marked as the worst building fire in Kuwaiti history, and for taking action against landlords and company owners, the incident triggered calls for them to “violate the law of housing large numbers of foreign laborers in extremely unsafe conditions to cut costs,” as reported by the Kuwait Times newspaper.
Among all the dead victims, there were 48-year-olds named Vadakkottuvilayil Lucose, a NBTC group supervisor, and KG Abraham, a businessman in Kerala. As the managing director, as reported by The Indian Express.
Vadakkottuvilayil Lukose, from Adichanalloor panchayat in Kollam, had lived for 18 years in Kuwait.
A resident of Vayyankara in Kerala named Shameer Umarudheen worked as a heavy vehicle driver in Kuwait. His relatives Onmanorama reported that Shameer Umarudheen had jumped off that flat in panic. And he was the second son of Umarudheen and Safeena. He was married to Surumi.
Shamer Umarudheen and his family later lived in Pooyapally Gram Panchayat in Payyakode. Then later on, they moved to Vayyankara in Kerala. He mainly got married two years ago, and he called his parents and family from Kuwait four days ago. Shameer came home nine months ago.
The family of Shameer learned about the incident on Wednesday at 11am, as reported by one of his relatives to the news agency ANI.
This incident in Kuwait also took the life of Kelu Ponmaleri. Kelu Ponmaleri resided in Thrikaripur town in Kasaragod and was working for NBTC Group as a production engineer. KN Mani, who is his wife, Kelu Ponmaleri, was survived by his wife; she is also a Panchayat employee and has two sons.
The other person identified, who was from Kasaragad and whose name is Ranjith, is a 34-year-old person who has been working in Kuwait for the last 10 years.
MoS Kirti Vardhan Singh leaves for Kuwait:
Before leaving Kuwait, the union minister of the state for external affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, said that few bodies have been burned out, which is beyond recognition.
“The rest of the situation will be clear the moment we reach there,” Union Minister Kirti Vardhan said.
At Delhi Airport, before flying to Kuwait, the MoS said, “We had a meeting last evening with the Prime Minister; that is the last update we have about this very sad tragedy… The rest of the situation will be clear the moment we reach there.”
In response to a question concerning the return of the dead, he stated, “The victims are primarily burn victims, and some of the bodies have been burned beyond recognition. So a DNA test is underway to identify the victims.”
A meeting was held on Wednesday evening by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the MEA team and a few officials about the Kuwait fire incident.
Modiji expressed his emotion for sadness for the fire incident, mainly to the family of the close ones of victims of the incidents.
