Visit the Bhuteshwar Mahadev Temple, a sacred site noted for its heavenly aura and spiritual significance.Natural shiva linga which is known by the name of Bhuteshwar Nath is found in the dense forest of Marauda village , which is in the peak of Gariaban district, located at a distance of  91km from Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state. This is the largest shiva Linga of the world. Bhuteshwar Nath is famous by the name of Mahadev. The biggest speciality of this Shiva Linga is that its size is increasing every year, which in itself proves that Lord Shiva himself is seated on this area in the form of Shiva Linga. This speciality of Shiva Linga is a miracle for the devotees but is the matter of research for the scientists. The height of this natural Shiva Linga is approximately 18 feet and the width is 20 feet.

Bhuteshwar Mahadev

This Shiva Linga is examined every year by the government department and according to them, the Shiva Linga grows by six to eight inches every year. Bhuteshwar Nath Mahadev is also known as Bhakurra Mahadev, in the language of Chhattisgarh the sound of humming is called Bhakurra. The idol of Lord shiva is situated behind Bhuteshwar Nath Mahadev in which Lord Shiva , Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, Lord Kartikeya are seated along with Nandiji. There is a slight crack in this Shiva Linga, thats why its worshiped by the name of Ardh Nageshwar. The increasing size of this Shiva Linga is still the subject of debate.

Bhuteshwarnath Mahadev shiva linga is himself built Shiva Linga. Even today there is no valid argument regarding the origin or establishment of this Shiva Linga but according to the ancestors it is said that this temple was discovered about 60 years ago when there was dense forests all around, from a small mound situated in the middle of these dense forests nearby villagers could hear the sound of a buffalo humming but when seen by the villagers on the mound, it was neither a buffalo nor any other animal.

Seeing such a situation, the faith of the villagers towards that mound continued to increase and they started worshiping him considering himself to be the form of Lord Shiva. And since then that small Shiva Linga has grown and taken the form of the biggest Shiva Linga , now call it the faith of the devotees or it is miracle of God, since then till now Shiva Linga has continued to grow. It is believed by the people of the village nearby that first Bhuteshwar Mahadev took the form of a small mound and then gradually his size started increasing and his size continues to increase even today.

In shiva Linga, a natural waterfall is also visible which is seen slowly rising above the ground that’s why its come to be known as Bhuteshwar Mahadev. You will see crowds of devotees here during the month of sawan,devotees came from far away to see Baba’s miracle. Special arrangements are made here for devotees, along with this a fair is organised here 3 days during Shivaratri. Bhuteshwar Nath is the Lord of the five ghosts and devotees consider themselves very fortunate to reach here on Maha Shivratri.
